Care
In all aspect of life at the Gables young people have a say, from sitting on part of the staff team meetings to interviewing prospective members of staff, and in creating a young people's booklet. Young people are fully involved.
As soon as a young person arrives another resident becomes their 'buddy' and shows them round for the first couple of days. After a week the young person gets to choose their keyworker.
We offer group work to young people and employ a therapist to take the group sessions, which is less invasive than individual work. We also employ a psychologist who consults with the staff group and therapist on how best to meet the young people's needs to create change. If individual sessions are needed for young people they are available.
We use Social Learning Theory techniques and reward young people for many small goals. Praise is also a crucial element to our success, which helps to build self esteem and resilience.
Our staff ratio is two to one. Where circumstances demand and at no extra cost we will provide one to one staffing for a short period of perhaps one week.
